The Academy of Prisons & Correctional Administration, Vellore (APCA)
The Academy of Prisons & Correctional Administration, Vellore (APCA) which is the first of its kind in India and a fine model of regional co-operation in the country, is sponsored by the four southern States (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu). The Institute was inaugurated on 1.10.1979 and became a pioneering Institute in preparing personnel to handle the Prison and Correctional Administration in the country, to achieve the accepted objectives of reintegrating the offenders in the main stream of the society.
APCA Vision
To prepare Prison and Correctional Officers as Leaders, who will lead the Correctional Services with uprightness, dedication, courage and a strong sense of service to the people, to achieve the goals of Reformation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Prisoners into Society.
Mission Statement of APCA
To impart quality training in Correctional Administration and allied subjects to the Correctional Officers of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and non-participating States.
To inculcate in them, such values, standards and norms as would help them discharge their duties better. In particular it will try to inculcate integrity of the highest order, sensitivity to aspirations of the people in fast changing social milieu, respect for human rights, law and justice, high standard of professionalism, physical fitness and mental
alertness.
To promote excellence by investing in Human Resource Development through training and research and by fostering co-operation and co-ordination for Common Vision.
