The department of Haematology exists to provide comprehensive clinical and laboratory services to all patients with blood diseases, to teach the science of this subject to students and physicians and biologists and strive to enhance both these aspects through research and development.

Haematology

Hematology is the branch of biology physiology, internal medicine, pathology, clinical laboratory work, and pediatrics that is concerned with the study of blood, the blood-forming organs, and blood diseases. Hematology includes the study of etiology, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of blood diseases. The laboratory work that goes into the study of blood is frequently performed by a medical technologist. Hematologists physicians also very frequently do further study in oncology - the medical treatment of cancer.

Research

The Hematology Department is involved in various research activities which include Thalassemia, Hemophilia, Thrombophilia, Aplastic anemia, Leukemia, ITP etc. The department has six faculty members, one senior research officer, one pool officer, eight PhD students, fifteen senior residents (DM students) & 15 highly competent technologists to man the laboratories.
